Frequently Asked Questions
Feel confident in your child’s care.
At Sunny Steps Pediatrics, we’re here to provide clear, helpful answers to the most common concerns parents have about our services, appointments, and approach to children’s healthcare.
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions are scheduled for one hour. Of that time, 53 minutes are dedicated to direct treatment or caregiver discussion. The remaining 7 minutes are allocated for the therapist to complete documentation, either immediately following the session or at a later time.
Do therapists set their own schedules?
Yes. Our therapists are independent contractors (1099) and therefore have the flexibility to create their own schedules. They also retain the professional discretion to accept or decline clients based on clinical judgment and availability.
Are evaluations available in all areas?
We are only able to offer in-person evaluations in areas where we have an evaluating therapist available. Please contact us to confirm availability in your location.
How can I access my child’s documentation?
All documentation is accessible through our Parent Portal. When completing your initial paperwork, please be sure to save your username and password. These credentials will allow you to securely log in and review your child’s records at any time.
What is the difference between an OTR and OTA, SLP and SLPA, or PT and PTA?
OTRs (Occupational Therapists), SLPs (Speech-Language Pathologists), and PTs (Physical Therapists) are licensed professionals with advanced degrees who are responsible for evaluating clients, creating individualized treatment plans, and overseeing all aspects of care.
OTAs (Occupational Therapy Assistants), SLPAs (Speech-Language Pathology Assistants), and PTAs (Physical Therapist Assistants) work under the supervision of their respective licensed therapists. They carry out treatment sessions, document progress, and contribute valuable insights to the care team. OTAs and PTAs may also assist with portions of the evaluation process, as permitted by their scope of practice.
All professionals work collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality therapy services tailored to each child’s needs.
